You Deserve Clear, Honest Answers

Reaching out for help can feel like a big step, and it is normal to have questions. You may be unsure what will happen if you speak to someone, or worried about being rushed into decisions.

This page is here to give you straightforward, honest answers so you can make choices in your own time and at your own pace.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is everything I share kept confidential?

Yes. Anything you share with us is treated with complete confidentiality. We only pass information on to our legal partners with your permission and always explain what that would involve. You stay in control of your story at every stage.

What happens after I contact you?

You’ll be able to speak with someone who will listen carefully and explain your options clearly. There’s no pressure to make any decisions straight away. Many people just want to talk at first, and that’s absolutely fine.

Will I have to talk about what happened in detail?

No. You choose what to share and how much. If you decide to move forward, we’ll explain what information may be needed and why, but you are never forced to relive painful experiences in detail. We move entirely at your pace.

Do I have to make a claim straight away?

No. Reaching out does not commit you to anything. Some people take time to decide what feels right. We’ll give you clear information and support you, whatever you choose.

Will financial compensation affect my benefits?

Receiving compensation does not have an immediate impact on benefits.

• Scottish Redress payments and Church of England redress payments are fully ignored when calculating benefits. This means they will not affect what you receive.

• Criminal Injuries Compensation and Breach of Duty of Care settlements are also ignored for the first 52 weeks. After that, any remaining amount may be taken into account, but many people choose to use the funds during that year,so it does not affect future benefits.

What if my experience happened a long time ago?

You can still seek support. Many survivors come forward years, or even decades, after the abuse took place. There are options available even when the events happened a long time ago. The first step is simply to talk to someone you can trust.

What if the person responsible has died or cannot be found?

You may still have options. There are legal routes and redress schemes designed to acknowledge harm and provide compensation, even when the individual responsible is no longer alive or cannot be located. We can talk through what may be possible in your situation.

How much does this cost?

All legal work is carried out on a No Win No Fee basis, so you do not need to worry about paying for support to explore your options.

Who will I speak to first?

Your first conversation will be with someone who understands how sensitive this is. Their role is to listen, explain things clearly and give you the space to decide what feels right for you. You’ll never be rushed or pushed into making a decision.

What if my situation doesn’t fit these categories?

That’s completely fine. Not every story fits a clear box. If you’re unsure whether we can help, a confidential conversation can help you understand your options. Even if we’re not the right service, we’ll do our best to guide you to someone who can help.

You’re In Safe Hands

You deserve answers that are honest and clear. You will always be treated with dignity and respect, and your story will be held in confidence. There is no pressure to act before you are ready.

You matter. Your story matters. Your future matters.
