Should the law be changed?

Should the limitations law be changed to reflect public opinion

“One of the worst cases of sexual abuse I have come

working with both offenders and victims.” within the home office and the penal system.

Thanks for this – I see the point in the House of Lords – concerning the limitation period.

There is no direct relationship between the ruling you have had here, and the criminal case. The issue in the House of Lords is whether a claim can be brought, given that the conduct complained of took place long ago, and outside the normal limitation period.

In the criminal courts, the position is completely different. This is because the issue is not about claiming compensation, but about punishing people for their wrongdoing. For serious offences, there is generally no limitation period in the criminal courts.

The point I was making, as I hope I clarified in our conversation, is that even if we prosecuted Mr Husband I respect of more offences committed some years ago, he would not receive a longer sentence than the one he is now serving, and therefore it is not in the public interest for there to be a further prosecution.

I would be interested to know how your civil case works out

Best wishes

Genetically predisposed to being abused.

Dr Woods for the Catholic Church defence psychologist claimed that Kevin was “Genetically predisposed to being abused from the age of two.” Which I must say is and could only be called “Complete and utter Bollocks” and of course went down like a lead balloon.

The next laughable  event was when a Dr Richard W Latcham stood up in the box and was asked by Stuart Brown Q.C. “What experience do you have in dealing with cases of sexual abuse?”  To which he could only come out with one answer and that none. So much for expert witnesses one so dilatory he could barely remember why he was there. the  other shy of the requisite knowledge in the area he was meant to be testifying about.
